Ways to Celebrate

Here are some ideas on ways to celebrate NIRWeek:

• Pledge to shop locally for the week to support your local independent retailers.
• Have your local government make a proclamation declaring the week containing July 21 National Independent Retailers Week. Here are sample proclamations for both local and statewide usage.

• Create special promotions (sales, events, etc…) with other independent retailers in your community to promote both your businesses and the event. Here is a sample of a newspaper ad a community created. Hornell area newspaper
• Have an event that brings together independent retailers with members of the community to start off the week. Concerts in the park, picnics, and outdoor movie screenings are great ways to unite the community while promoting your business and NIRWeek.
• Use our logo and post it in your store window, newsletter, and anywhere else you can think of. You can even have stickers and buttons made to show your support. The NIRWeek artwork can be found on the artwork page.
• Spread the word to the media about all the benefits of shopping locally and the special promotions local retailers are having.
• Involve your local merchants association, Chamber of Commerce and Main Street program to include as many local businesses as possible.
• To do more, just go shopping in the locally owned business.
